As part of Powerlink’s new Supply Chain team structure, we’re inviting applications for a Category Manager to oversee our team covering primary plant systems associated with high voltage transmission lines. Within this role you will define & deliver our category management strategy to ensure the best operational, financial and inventory outcomes for the business.  

  • Utilise your technical knowledge to provide leadership, guidance and expert advice to internal stakeholders and a team of category specialists
  • Develop and oversee a portfolio of transmission lines categories, implementing plans and strategies to improve efficiency and meet the business’ upcoming pipeline of projects
  • Build and maintain business relationships with vendors, utilising the Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) Framework to ensure the highest level of delivery & best financial outcomes
  • Develop or review technical specifications for transmission line materials.
  • Responsible for supplier Factory Audits, Design Reviews, Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, and other vendor approvals.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to your teamin developing and implementing technical innovation and standardisation of transmission line materials, support for major technical investigations, root-cause analysis and development of category strategies
  • Analyse, develop recommendations, plan and implement solutions for supply chain resilience opportunities
  • Maintain current knowledge of market trends for transmission line equipment in terms of technological development, global supply markets, industry advancements, and best practices.
  • Have the opportunity to represent Powerlink at CIGRE and other relevant industry bodies

Our Supply Chain Services provide pivotal support to our operations through the global sourcing and procurement of materials & services; positioning Powerlink as a world-class leader in the energy sector. From our Primary and Secondary Systems through to our Transformers and Reactive Plants, this team links Powerlink to the latest, most sustainable technology, equipment and services that enable our success.

Your expertise

A degree and background in Electrical or Civil/Structure Engineering or similar discipline is critical for this role. You’ll also have previous experience leading and managing a team and be confident in your ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings and other technical documentation as it relates to the design and application of equipment and materials for Transmission Lines.

Experience with the following equipment will be highly regarded:

  • Transmission Towers and Poles
  • Transmission line conductors of all types
  • OPGW and earthwire (including termination requirements for OPGW)
  • Line insulators of all types including glass, porcelain and polymer
  • Line fittings as commonly used in transmission line applications
  • Protective devices which may be fitted to transmission lines to manage over-voltage
