Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has appointed a new general manager to head the company’s mining and metals business, following the appointment of the former general manager, Santo Rizzuto, to the role of CEO.

Phil Lory, formerly SKM’s Area Manager, Asia Pacific, will now lead SKM’s mining activities across the company’s global operations.

Santo Rizzuto said that the appointment had been made at an exciting and challenging time when the company is focused on delivering projects for clients across Australia, South America and Africa, while expanding into new regions.

“We anticipate an even busier time ahead and believe that Phil’s extensive experience across SKM’s business and in the mining, power and heavy industry sectors, will enable us to capitalise on the myriad opportunities ahead to grow our business,” Rizzuto said.

Mr Lory’s experience includes a broad operational understanding of SKM’s business across Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He also has previous general manager experience, having been General Manager of SKM’s Heavy Industry Business Unit (combining Mining, Power and Industry) until 2003.

Mr Rizzuto acknowledged  Mr Lory's  contribution as Area Manager - Asia Pacific over the past five years.

“During this period the Asia Pacific region has delivered strong performance and established a robust platform from which to implement strategies to extend our activities in the growing economies of the broader Asian region. Phil has been involved in projects in countries including Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, USA, Kenya and New Zealand”.

Mr Lory said that he was looking forward to the challenge of expanding SKM’s service delivery to mining clients, including  in countries such as Guinea, Liberia and Ghana in Africa and also in Peru, Colombia and Brazil, in South America.
