Powerlink is expanding, and we're on the lookout a passionate Principal Engineer to join our vibrant team. If you're driven by the prospect of shaping the future of Queensland's energy transmission network, this is your chance to make a significant impact.
The role executes holistic planning principles (that take account of future network capacity needs, including power system transformation projects, and whole of life asset reinvestment planning) to provide recommendations on the optimised integrated network and renewable energy development plan.
- Lead complex cross-divisional initiatives and technical activities to develop an integrated strategic network and renewable energy plan that takes account of future network capacity needs, including power system transformation projects, and whole of life asset reinvestment planning
- Maintain technical understanding of power systems performance and modelling, network planning, regulatory frameworks, energy markets, connection processes and network asset risks to lead highly specialised technical work and teams related to the integrated planning of the integrated renewable energy and transmission network
- Develop and maintain a recognised industry standing to influence and advocate for Powerlink’s business objectives and interests, maintain key awareness of trends, technologies and practices critical for Powerlink’s network and renewable energy development planning
- Provide technical leadership and inspiration to attract, build and develop talented internal capabilities through training, coaching and mentoring to meet the challenges of increasing workload and pace of change
- Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives.

As a member of our Network Planning Group based in our Virginia offices, you'll be at the heart of our grid planning operations, leading complex cross-divisional initiatives and technical activities to develop an integrated strategic network and renewable energy plan that is cost effective and fully supports the rapidly transforming energy system and decarbonisation of the broader economy.
Your expertise
As a member of our Network Planning Group based in our Virginia offices, you'll be at the heart of our grid planning operations, leading complex cross-divisional initiatives and technical activities to develop an integrated strategic network and renewable energy plan that is cost effective and fully supports the rapidly transforming energy system and decarbonisation of the broader economy.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required combined with significant industry experience
- Registration as a Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
- Expert knowledge of power system plant characteristics and the ability to model power system plant and power system behaviour.
- Expert knowledge in strategic investment planning, energy markets, regulatory investment tests, economic and financial modelling and regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a highly complex technical environment balancing the competing requirements of multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively keep abreast of trends, developments, technologies and disruptors relevant to energy systems and transmission networks.
- Significant expertise leading cross-divisional teams to develop complex technical network strategies.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective and constructive working relationships at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership, training, coaching and guidance to Senior Engineers and technical professionals across the business.
