The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) plays a critical role in the national transport supply chain and in the overall economic development of Australia. Managing and operating more than 8,500 km of track in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland, makes ARTC one of Australia's largest rail network owners.

The Inland Rail Program is a 1700km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

As the Senior Environment Advisor you will implement and help develop the strategic framework, key strategies, policies and procedures applicable to the management environmental impacts and delivery of Inland Rail projects through detailed design and construction. The incumbent will also be involved developing and setting the strategic delivery of the nominated projects through detailed design and construction including overarching end-to-end delivery. This role is a site-based role DIDO working a 10/4 continuous roster, accommodation and vehicle supplied.

Your responsibilities will include and are not restricted to:

  • Provide support to the Program Environment Manager and State Environment Manager to assist with the delivery of effective environmental and sustainability policies, assessment of environmental impacts and compliance systems for the relevant state (NSW).
  • Responsible for oversight of technical advice in the assessment and mitigation of environmental impacts and development of planning and environmental management strategies, documents, and procedures.
  • Lead the technical advice in the assessment and mitigation of environmental impacts and development of planning and environmental management strategies, documents, and procedures.
  • Lead the delivery of environmental studies associated with Feasibility Studies, Environmental Impact Assessments and Construction Management Plans as required.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities, government agencies relevant stakeholders to ensure that ARTC's environmental management is sensitive to industry trends, stakeholder, community and regulatory expectations and legislation as required.

About you

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or an environmentally related discipline.
  • Experience in the management of environmental impact assessments, planning approval processes and environmental approvals (both state and federal) for major projects, preferably for infrastructure projects in NSW, either brownfield or greenfield.
  • Knowledge of relevant State (NSW) and Federal environmental legislation including project approval process and construction requirements.
  • Management and delivery of the environmental management of associated studies and investigations required during environmental impact assessments.
  • Experience in input and support to procurement process for detailed design and construction phases of projects.
  • Ability to work with senior management, service providers and contractors, building support for an environmentally compliant work culture and negotiate with stakeholders on complex environment and policy issues.
  • High level communication skills, as well as the ability to build and sustain relationships will see you excel in this key position.
