A rare opportunity has become available as Senior Environmental Advisor with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) to deliver expert environmental advice to our diverse business! 

Reporting to the Environment Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • strategic management, and continual improvement of, BAC’s environmental impact assessment and approval process to facilitate major development works at Brisbane Airport; 
  • managing BAC’s environmental compliance obligations in accordance with conditions of project approval under the Airports (Building Control) Regulation 1996 (ABCR), the Airports Act 1996 and BAC’s commitments in the Airport Environment Strategy (AES); 
  • managing the accurate and timely preparation of all environmental monitoring and performance reports for submission to internal or external stakeholders; and 
  • managing the continual improvement of BAC’s Environmental Management System (EMS).

This is a minimum 12 month contract to start in February or March 2023. 

About you

  • Excellent knowledge of relevant state and federal legislation and standards applicable to environmental management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the environmental approval process and post approval compliance obligations for major projects in a complex regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic environmental management and strategic review of government environmental policy. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and with influence at a senior level to internal and external stakeholders to achieve appropriate environmental outcomes.
  • Strong presentation and written skills with an ability to concisely translate technical issues into a manner suitable to inform the decision making of internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated project management skills.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic management, and continual improvement of, BAC’s environmental impact assessment and approval process to facilitate major development works at Brisbane Airport. 
  • Ensure efficient and consistent environmental risk assessment and the implementation of practical, risk-based, environmental controls.
  • Manage BAC’s environmental compliance obligations in accordance with conditions of project approval under the ABCR and/or the Airports Act 1996.
  • Manage the implementation of the AES and project manage development of the next AES to ensure BAC’s long-term environmental performance objectives are environmental outcomes-focused.
  • Monitor and interpret environmental legislation, policies and guidelines. Provide expert direction and advice to internal stakeholders on a diverse range of environmental issues to ensure BAC meets its corporate objectives and statutory responsibilities.
  • Project manage the design and implementation of risk-based environmental monitoring programs that will enable performance trends to be measured and provide an evidence-base to inform future management decisions.
  • Support the Environment Manager’s engagement with environmental regulators to ensure a risk-based approach to environmental legislation is applied.
  • Project management of technical consultants and suitably qualified persons (SQPs) to ensure BAC’s desired project and operational outcomes are delivered on time and budget. 
  • Manage the implementation and improvement of BAC’s EMS consistent with the ISO14001 standard including maintaining the environmental risk and opportunities register, compliance, assurance, training and reporting programs to foster a proactive environmental culture.
  • Manage the response and provision of advice on incidents with environmental consequences. Coordinate timely investigations to identify root cause, communicate to stakeholders and oversee implementation of corrective actions to prevent a reoccurrence. 
  • Manage the accurate and timely preparation of all environmental monitoring and performance reports for submission to internal or external stakeholders. 

Experience & Qualifications 
Essential:

  • Bachelor degree in an environmental discipline (e.g. Environmental Science or Engineering)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an environmental discipline.Current Class "C" driver's license.
  • Possess or able to acquire an ASIC and if required undergo a security check.
