The Department of Defence’s Primary role is to defend Australia and its national interests. In delivery Defence capability to the Australian Government, the Defence Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) is seeking to recruit to a unique and exciting role that offers the right candidate an opportunity to provide commercial support and advice to a wide range of leading edge Defence capability programs.

The First Assistant Secretary Procurement and Contracting is the principal source of influence and advice in relation to the commercial aspects of procurement and contract management across the Australian Defence Organisation. As the procurement and contracting owner the position incumbent manages the Commercial Division within Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and provides strategic commercial advice to the Deputy Secretary and other senior Defence managers in relation to complex contracting and procurement matters. The position is also charged with leading an extensive program of commercial reform, including leading and providing strategic direction for the Defence Procurement Centre of Expertise encompassing both materiel and non-materiel procurement.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in advising on complex contracting and procurement matters, preferably with public sector (State or Federal) experience. A demonstrated track record in leadership and management at a senior level is also important.

The Department of Defence offers a competitive remuneration package, inclusive of superannuation and an Executive Vehicle Allowance. Relocation expenses are covered where applicable, noting that the position is located in Canberra.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis. To be eligible, an applicant must be an Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant may be required to undergo a security assessment to the highest level.
