Whether you’ve recently graduated from tertiary studies, or you’re already in the workforce, you’ll be trained from the ground up to become an effective leader. No experience is required, you just need the right attitude and personal drive.

The role:
On graduation, General Service Officers (GSOs) will lead a team of up to 30 personnel across one of thirteen sections within the Army. You could be an Intelligence Officer responsible for managing military intelligence from covert sources, or a Signals Officer who leads the team managing the Army’s communication services and information technology. You could also be an Ordinance Officer managing the supply and distribution network, or a Transport Officer coordinating the Army’s land, sea and air transport. And those are just a few of the roles available.

The responsibility entrusted to Army Officer graduates is greater than other careers, however you will be trained to ensure you’re ready for the role. The journey may be challenging, but the personal satisfaction and reward that comes with the achievements make it worthwhile.

Training:
You’ll receive world-class training at the Royal Military College — Duntroon (RMC) in Canberra, and get paid whilst studying. Officer training will teach you techniques for problem solving, decision making and performing under pressure.

Upon completion, you’ll be capable of guiding, inspiring and mentoring others, as well as managing complex scenarios. Plus, you’re guaranteed a role within one of thirteen specialisations based on preferences and performance.

No matter your specialisation, the invaluable leadership and management skills you’ll learn at RMC will enable you to succeed in the Army, whilst being highly sought-after in the private sector too.

Salary:
In the Army you'll get paid a competitive salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training at RMC, your starting salary will be approximately $58,877 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.

On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you are guaranteed a role and could earn $82,574 per annum plus generous super. You’ll also receive salary increments based on career progression.

Location:
Following your initial military training in Canberra, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia, depending on your specialisation. It’s not possible to guarantee a specific posting location for the duration of your service, therefore you must be willing to relocate.
