The opportunity

Our Infrastructure Services Group is looking for a passionate, skilled and motivated Operations Engineer to join their team. You will be responsible for process engineering at Icon Water’s wastewater and water treatment plants.

Using your strong engineering and communication skills, you will provide process engineering support and advice on plant performance, developing operating strategies, guidelines and manuals, process optimisation and the resolution of process related operational and maintenance problems.

Your duties as an Operations Engineer will include:

  • Process management for the water and waste water treatment plants in accordance with the process operating plans.
  • Providing advice and direction to key stakeholders, and the shift operators in the operations and process control of the water and waste water treatment plants.
  • Developing tactical operating plans to guide day to day treatment operations including equipment shutdowns and event response.
  • Collecting and reviewing treatment process data, statistics and advice on trends and impacts of trends.
  • Reviewing performance of treatment process facilities and implement high level improvements driving benefits in operations service delivery.
  • Development and variation of routine and special laboratory sampling programmes.
  • Trials and investigations into treatment processes, in conjunction with Operations staff, with respect to process optimisation and variation, and performance improvements.
  • Participating in projects relating to the planning of new, and the review of existing, treatment facilities.
  • Assist in the management of treatment site facilities liaising with shared services and contractors.

You will need:

  • Tertiary qualification as a professional engineer (Chemical, Environmental or Mechanical) from recognised university providing eligibility for Membership of Engineers Australia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of water/wastewater treatment processes and laboratory procedures
  • Knowledge of HACCP and drinking water quality risk management principles and/or an understanding of the ACT Environmental Protection Act.
  • High level of computer literacy, including data processing, spread sheet manipulation, database management and Microsoft Office packages
  • A current ACT Class C driver’s licence or the equivalent
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safety in the workplace
  • High developed communication skills, both oral and written, in communicating technical information to varied audiences
