The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Senior Coordinator for Parks and Reserves to join our fast-paced and multi-faceted team. This position will be reporting to the Executive Manager Operations, and require a highly-organised, proactive and motivated individual. In this role you will provide leadership and management to Team Leaders responsible for the work programmes and projects across Council's parks, reserves, open areas, along with urban forest management and irrigation management. You will have control and input over forward planning for annual maintenance and capital programs meaning you can directly impact on the future of Darwin.This role will require the successful candidate to work both inside office and out at the field, leading the Parks and Reserves team along with contractors, making sure they meet their deadlines following the Council's policies and procedures. Exceptional customer service both internally and externally will be the key to this position's success.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage the delivery of Council's parks and reserves statutory and periodic maintenance programs and, as directed, new/renewal/improvement projects to ensure outcomes, timing, budget and other associated objectives are met in accordance with best practice service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance across the section on contractual, legislative, policy and service level requirements.
  • Ensure that community and key stakeholder consultation is undertaken regarding delivery of parks and reserves projects and forward programs including the preparation of responses to infrastructure project related correspondence and enquiries.
  • Plan, develop and monitor parks and reserves programs and associated budgets, including capital works program and forward planning for funding requirements.
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing Parks and Reserves team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements while fostering an equitable and fair workplace.

To be successful you will have

  • Tertiary qualification in related discipline, (e.g. arboriculture, horticulture, project management, management) and minimum of five (5) years' experience working in similar roles or substantial experience in managing a multi-faceted workforce.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the preparation and management of budgets/ Demonstrated experience in budget and contract management/administration and supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience to lead, motivate and supervise team members/ Demonstrated experience of mentoring, coaching and motivating staff to deliver high performance and customer focused outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Parks & Reserves maintenance works and projects, including contract management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and Workplace Health And Safety procedures, policies, responsibilities as set out in current legislation.
  • Proven ability with communication, research and report writing skills including a high level of computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage, plan and achieve performance outputs, work under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
