About the role

As the Energy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of our manufacturing operations.  You will be directly responsible for overseeing the management of our newly build Energy from Waste plant and multi fuel boiler as well as our natural gas boilers, Turbine Operation and steam systems, key components in our production process.  This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic planning, and a passion for sustainability, aiming to optimize energy use, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.

Duties

  • Develop, implement, and monitor energy management strategies focused on our boilers and steam systems to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
  • Monitor and optimise the performance of the Energy from Waste plant to ensure landfill avoidance is maximised
  • Monitor and optimise the performance of the onsite Turbine generating electricity for the onsite paper making process
  • Conduct detailed energy audits for the boiler and steam systems, identifying and prioritizing areas for improvement.
  • Design and lead projects to optimize energy consumption, including retrofitting and upgrading equipment, improving heat recovery, and implementing advanced control strategies.
  • Monitor energy consumption and performance metrics, utilizing data analytics to track efficiency improvements and cost savings.
  • Work closely with maintenance and operational teams to ensure optimal performance of energy systems, providing training and guidance on best practices for energy conservation.
  • Stay informed on the latest energy technologies and sustainability practices relevant to boiler and steam system operations, evaluating their feasibility and potential benefits for our operations.
  • Oversee both turbine cooling tower- and boilers ensuring maintenance and compliance with environmental and Visy’s regulations and standards and contribute to the company's sustainability reporting efforts.

What you will bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in paper manufacturing or heavy engineering sectors i.e.:  mining, oil & gas, steel manufacturing.
  • Strong technical knowledge of boiler and steam system operations, maintenance, and efficiency optimization.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing energy-saving initiatives that result in significant cost and consumption reductions.
  • Excellent analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Asset Management Systems – experience or understanding required.
  • Leadership and Management experience required.
  • Manufacturing management experience would be advantageous.
  • Stakeholder management both internal and external
  • Analytical, Process and Continuous Improvement focused.
  • Advanced Boiler High Risk Work Licence – would be advantageous but can be acquired through Visy if successful for the role.
  • Steam Turbine High Risk Work Licence – would be advantageous but can be acquired through Visy if successful for the role.
