Arrow Energy is an integrated coal seam gas (CSG) company that explores and develops gas fields, produces and sells CSG and generates electricity.  

Arrow produces CSG from fields in the Surat Basin in southern Queensland and the Bowen Basin in central Queensland. We have been safely and sustainably developing CSG since 2000 and supplying it commercially since 2004.  

We own one of Queensland's largest power stations, Braemar 2 near Dalby, and we have interests in two others, giving us enough generation capacity to power around 800,000 homes. On 1 December 2017, Arrow agreed one of the largest gas supply deals on Australia’s east coast, to bring to market our significant gas reserves in the Surat Basin.

Reporting to the Manager Community & Communications the successful candidate will help in ensuring Arrow’s engagement with journalists/reporters is done so in a proactively  nature helping to inform the community about Arrow’s activities enhancing the company’s reputation in the community.The role includes identifying and developing opportunities for editorial contributions to a range of print and online publications to ensure current and correct information is available externally. Working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders you will work to ensure the delivery of our projects.

In addition you will:

  • Manage day-to-day media and editorial enquiries, seeking relevant approvals to ensure a timely and appropriate response;
  • Plan and develop a range of media materials including media statements, responses, speech notes, Q&As, holding statements, fact sheets, briefs and other materials that appropriately inform stakeholders and position and promote Arrow;
  • Build and maintain relationships with counterparts in industry peak bodies (QRC and APPEA) and with other CSG proponents, to ensure consistent responses to industry-wide initiatives;
  • Monitor, analyse and report on Arrow’s media mainstream and social media impact;
  • Prepare daily media monitoring reports (including social media) to inform leadership of proactive coverage and significant emerging issues;
  • Proactively identify media opportunities to leverage Arrow’s social investment and sustainable development initiatives, and pitch potential stories to journalists/reporters;
  • Assist with issues management, crisis management and crisis communication to maintain and protect Arrow’s reputation.
  To be successful in the role, you will have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications and experience working as a journalist are essential,as is your experience working in public relations;
  • Highly developed writing and editing experience for media, general and specialist audiences in preparing media releases, articles, speeches, briefing notes and reports;
  • Experience in issues management in a complex organisations;
  • Ability to evaluate media messaging whilst working to tight deadlines, managing multiple tasks and competing priorities on an ongoing basis;
  • Strong conceptual research and analytical skills, including the ability to think laterally;
  • Highly developed and creative problem solving skills and a commitment to achieving results
  • Proven ability in understanding government relations, processes and community perceptions and expectations would be highly regarded in this role.
