Job Description

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Operations Team Leader & JV Advisor and as part of the Commercial & Development Team, you will be primarily responsible for scheduling and optimising Cooper Energy’s gas sales portfolio on a day-to-day basis, in addition to undertaking general financial and market analyst duties.

In this role you will participate in a roster to share coverage of weekday, out of hours and weekends, acting as the crucial link between Cooper Energy’s internal gas plant operations teams and external stakeholders including gas customers and pipeline operators. It is a dynamic environment supporting a business-critical activity where you will acquire first-hand, unique knowledge and capability associated with commercial aspects of the south-east Australian gas market.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive and motivated individual who enjoys building and maintaining relationships and is passionate about working with data and numbers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute Cooper Energy’s daily commercial operations requirements including receiving and providing nominations for the physical production and delivery of gas to customers
  • Communicate with commercial operations teams of customers, suppliers, pipeline operators, etc and site-based gas plant operators as required
  • Optimise gas portfolio daily in line with agreed trading mandates or corporate objectives
  • Work a rotating roster including mornings, afternoons and one weekend a month (inc. on call component)
  • Support with reconciliation, settlement and month-end activities as required
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with internal staff, customers, pipeline operators and other industry stakeholders
  • Develop understanding of the gas market and emerging issues
  • General financial and energy market analysis

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in business, commerce, engineering, mathematics, or relevant numerical based discipline  
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with varied stakeholders and counterparts
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Self-starter attitude, attention to detail and commercial acumen 
  • Exposure to energy markets including the East Australian gas or electricity markets or exposure in trading systems and processes highly desirable 
  • HSEC – aware and works consistent with requirements
